Modern & Post-War Art

Swann Auction Galleries Sale #2756: This sale includes a strong selection of Abstract Expressionist painters, including the often overlooked women who participated in the movement. Notable artists include Corrine “Michael” West, who studied under Hans Hofmann at the Art Students League, with From the Edge of Nothing Matter Weeps (pictured on the previous page in our centerfold), and Joan Mitchell with an oversized lithograph Trees II, 1992. The sale will also feature a 1985 acrylic on canvas painting by Buffie Johnson. In May of 2021, Swann established the auction record for a work by Buffie Johnson.

Also featured are works by Auguste Herbin, Claude Venard, Alexander Calder, Adolf Fleischmann and Joe Brainard.
